What a shame this is! To remove it was ill advised to begin with, especially as there were people who would have paid to have it repaired. And to lose? Sad. Put it back where it belongs. I was all part of the ambiance of going to the library.

Auction it off or scrap it. If someone wants it for sentimental value, let them pay scrap value for it to the city. How many other sentimental items are we housing in valuable city storage that will never see the light of day again? Historical items belong in the museum. Things that will be used again should be in storage. Things that will never be used again and have no historical value should be evaluated as to the merit in storing them. Yes, this is just one item, but how many more of these types of things are we paying to store?
