You're right - Schell's is inflated. The brewery only provides jobs, taxes, etc for the town directly but also brings tons of tourists who spend money at all the specialty shops, bars, restaurants, etc. If you think this is about the taste of the beer, let's expand the mind a little and look at the larger picture.

There are so many reasons besides Schells that make our city great. Clean, German heritage, parks, size, river, etc. Sometimes we get a bit "inflated" about precious Schells Brewery. Yes, they produce good beers (some) but believe it or not, some don't drink it. Leinenkugel, Miller, Budweiser, or his brother's Morgan Creek wine are personal favorites.

@ TwinsFan - If the Twins were able to do something more than lose they might be a top news story.

Another point about Schell's and the Marti's: they should get a medal for their generosity and commitment to NU. They could have and still can easily move production out of the hillside to a more efficient location (probably not in town). They give generously to MANY organizations and are dedicated to NU.

i've never understood why people think calling someplace Mayberry is an insult. To live in would be a compliment! Kudos to Schell's and New Ulm. The people who live in New Ulm and criticize it need to live somewhere else for awhile. You don't realize how great you really have it. Perfect? no. A really nice small city? yes.

Congratulations on the awards ! Well deserved! Great news for New Ulm! I feel fortunate to live in a community that is as clean and safe as this one. I have lived in many areas of the nation and could live anywhere but I chose New Ulm, MN to live , work and raise my family. It offers a very high quality of living that we love. 10 years in New Ulm and counting.

Our top news story? Wow, this town's like Mayberry, only a bit less sophisticated.

Congrats. to Schell's! Can't keep up w/your new beers! Kudos to your marketer as I feel the labels lately are helping sell the beer. (probably Jace).
