Done on time

May 22, 2013

The Minnesota Legislature finished its session Monday on time and it completed the essential task of passing a balanced budget. Grading the session depends on who you talk to....

Agreed, tooold. Sadly, people wouldn't have cared if they did give it the publicity. The whole thing is a bunch of crap, no pun intended.

The budget did not get the publicity that the Gay Marriage bill did. I know that they work on different bills in committee. You never hear about them in the news!

Read my last post, toold. You can't pass a budget without knowing how much all the extra gay people on government workers' insurance plans are going to impact the budget. The budget always needs to be the last thing passed if other pending bills require money to fund them. That doesn't mean that the budget isn't being worked on or tuned as different bills are heard on the floor.

Just want to explain that I was not against gay marriage--it was the time they spent on it. This goes on every year--budget is always the last item--surprised there was no extra session.

Our legislators do not have priorities for the things that should get done and debated more than what they do. Instead their #1 priority is to get re-elected and what better way than to make Gay marriage legal and have all of them reelect these legislators. To me there was no debate for this that should have lasted as long as it did. I really never know who to vote for anymore. Budget issues and jobs should be their #1 issue.

I agree with you on this one, Integrity. Although, I suppose they had to know how much the extra gay people were going to cost to insure before they finalized the budget.

What about the time share break down on the session: weeks and weeks spent on gay marriage and gun control (which never even passed), and the last week spent on the budget, taxes, etc. Where are our legislator's priorities? Social issues are fine to debate, tackle, but I sure feel the important budget items were last minute. Should have been the other way around.

I wouldn't go saying that unions will be happy with the whole daycare worker debacle. Unionizing independent businesses makes no sense and should have never have happened. The union coworkers that I have talked to agree.
