God’s words, commands are clear

May 15, 2013

To the editor: It is with a heavy heart and genuine love and concern for my fellow citizens that I write this letter today. The Legislature has seen fit to legalize gay marriage in Minnesota....

cottoneyejoe, when you are standing in front of God on judgement day is that what you will tell him?

Keep reading Claus...

"Whoever hates his brother is a murderer: and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him."  I John 3:15

"Do Not Hate:  If anyone says, I love God, but hates the brothers or sisters, he is a liar...Whoever loves God must also love the brothers and sisters."  I John 3:20, 21

...

I didn't see any exceptions, Claus. You've chosen to add your own.

There is absolutely no question in my mind that there IS a God. God has commanded that his followers "love thy neighbors" and "do unto others"... It is because of those commands that I am indifferent on the issue of gay marriage. I have gay and lesbian friends and I love and respect them - as my friends. I don't thing of them as my "gay" friends! I will leave the judgement up to God.

cottoneyejoe, as I said in my first post, I have no doubt that God is "real". I always pose this question to nonbelievers. Wouldn't you rather go through life believing in God only to die and find out there isn't one, than to live life like there is not a God, only to die and find out that there is?

So-called Christians such as this letter writer will continue to go to their churches and selectivley preach whatever they want. The issue of same-sex marriage was never about religion. It was about equal application of our laws.

So go on and quote scripture to your heart's content. Promote your brand of Christianity and God's love. Your words will no longer be able to hurt people in our state. You can continue to practice your right to your religious views and consenting adults can legally marry the person they choose.

HopeMaria:

So, a person should believe in God just in case he is "real" ? sounds kind of hollow to me.

I've always felt people can believe whatever they want. It's when they try to impose their beliefs on others that I take exception to their beliefs.

cottoneyejoe, I see your point - the question was just meant to be thought provoking, not a reason to believe.

These verses CLEARLY state then that unmarried people are an abomination as well, don't they? Sounds like a mandate to marry someone of the opposite sex, not a direction on who not to marry. Where does the option to NOT marry come in? If not being able to marry someone of the same sex is forbidden by these verses, then so is not marrying at all. That's how CLEAR it is.

Your bible does not apply to anyone outside of your religion.

And it doesn't matter anyway. Go hide under a rock and wait for the wrath of a god made so angry by the legislature allowing people to marry who they love. What a loving god.

There is no, I will believe just in case there is a God. You either believe or you don't. I know there is a God and I don't hate gay people. Just don't believe in same sex marriage. I will how ever leave the judgement to the Lord. Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding. PTL

MT-Denmark legalized gay marriage in 1989, so far the economy is doing just fine. Bangladesh on the other hand punishes gay marriage with life in prison and has suffered;floods, earthquakes, tornadoes and building collapse. Seems like god is not happy with banning gay marriage.

Michael,

Do you also believe that U.S. troops are killed in battle and school children are slaughtered in mass shootings due to God's devine retribution due to America's stance on homosexuality ?

Politics are cyclical, we will sometime in the future again have a Republican governor and a Republican legislature, laws will change, so winners get your licks in now, because history teaches that eventually you will be back licking your wounds.

Also history teaches us that you should never back Christians into a corner. The Church Triumphant can quickly become the Church Militant. Christians over the centuries have demonstrated that they will only turn their cheeks so many times.

Question: How many laws of nature would have to be broken for evolution to be a reality? It begs the question of who really has the most faith?

The way things are going in Washington, Democratic backlash by the American public maybe just around the corner.

We just saw in Minnesota how quickly political fortunes can change and we know politics will always be a double-edged sword.

Listen to yourselves -- arguing over the "Church Militant" and the "Church Triumphant". Hate to break it to you guys, but the the Bible is fiction, 100% pure fiction. Big scary God -- gonna strike people down. Yea sure. Take off your blinders, open your eyes, and *think for yourselves* instead of how other people have told you to think. There's no God coming to "save" us from anything. We all have to learn to get along with each other, respect other people, take care of other people, be tolerant of other people, and take care of the earth (because it's the only one we've got). THAT'S REALITY.

"Christians do not advance Christ's kingdom by force of arms, or by political maneuvering."

Michael, would this "political maneuvering" you speak of include promoting constitutional amendments to enforce a purely social policy ? It doesn't square up with your notion to advance Christ's Kingdom by employing such tactics.
