Nice Job Lietzau! Way to be proactive! It is not easy being the new employee having enforce the rules that were let slide for the last 11 or 12 years.

I just wonder if the old city clerk has ever been questioned about this issue. I also wonder if he will show his face in Gibbon again? Also did the council not know about this huge debt/problem before? Shouldn't they have seen it in the financial reports?

It has been brought to my attention that when the writer of the article was investigating the issues concerning the outstanding water bills he called the current city clerk. The city clerk has only been in her position for approximately six weeks. In an effort to provide accurate information, she referred him to the city attorney and the mayor of Gibbon. He then proceeded to use vulgar language in an attempt to obtain more information from her. Is this the type of journalism the New Ulm Journal wants to encourage? In the future, I hope the New Ulm Journal and its writers implement respect and use ethical means while investigating a story.

The City Clerk responsible for this mess retired in March. The current Clerk, Lietzau, is the one that discovered the problem, so I think we're lucky to have her and I hope she stays! Willing to bet this isn't the only "problem area" and she just might be the key to get it all opened up and straightened out!

Sounds like Gibbon needs to immediately replace the current city clerk....
