Senators dealt with their own threat

April 18, 2013

The slaughter of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., was a horrible thing, but not horrible enough to shake enough votes loose in the U.S....

I'm contacting my senators & reps because I want them to have to do background checks on the purchase of pressure cookers, ball bearings, and nails now. That will prevent the marathon bombing from ever happening again. Wew, got that one figured out too.

TURBO75: With that post you go into The Journal Website Hall of Fame. I only wish that I had written it.

And, Mnsotn gets an honorable mention, as well.

REPEAL THE 2ND!

Turbo, so long as Wall Street bankers aren't hurt, the Republicans will just write events like Sandy Hook off as "population control". Those kids were part of the 47% anyway.

Backround checks would probably have been ineffective in preventing any of these tragedies, most criminals get their guns illegally (that is the nature of their so called line of work) . What would be good is to require everyone that owns a gun to take a gun safety course , going over proper handling and storage of their weapons. Alot of incidents happen because of somebody leaving weapons accesible instead of under lock and key, even hidden. A proper gun course goes over safe handling ,discharge and storage. There are too many stories of people being killed by "unloaded " weapons. It also goes over your responsibilities as far as being able to shoot intruders or people threatening you. We can't outlaw everything that is dangerous, we can educate as many people as possible about proper handling and their responsibilities associated with their ownership of guns. People that are evil will continue their ways, they might be deterred by educated, trained, armed citizens.

Meaningful gun law reform?

Define meanigful in this case.

Which of the laws proposed would have changed anything in Newtown. (Or Aurora, or Tucson, or Columbine.)

This round of bills was, in my opinion, simply some people using a horriffic incident to make a name for themselves. They just wanted to pass something. Anything. It didn't matter if it would reduce any crimes or not.

I keep harping that we need to figure out WHY and do something about that first. WHY do some people have so little regard for innocent human life?

My question is only stronger after the Boston Marathon bombing. WHY do people have such little regard for others? And what makes them actually commit such horrible crimes?

Wew, that was a close call, for a while there I thought I was going to have to keep on protectin Ma and the younins with my crummy 5 shot 12ga. Now I can order me one of them 30 shot semi-auto's, no questions asked, nobody needs to know about my 5 yr. stint at the phych. ward. Nice thing about those guns is you don't have to be a very good shot, if you hear a strange noise outside your door, you just spray an entire area with lead. Sure, every once in a while you blow away a Girl Scout or the UPS man but it's the price I'm willin to pay to keep my second amendment rights. It's good to know that even 20 dead kindergarteners won't change my senators mind.
