New Ulm falls to Hutchinson

NEW ULM — The New Ulm softball team struggled against the Hutchinson Tigers in a nonconference game Saturday at Harman Park.
The Eagles lost by a final of 7-1,which was the most runs given up by the team all year in a single game.
New Ulm’s Becca Loose, who received the loss started off rough in the first inning.
Loose walked Hutchinson’s Sammy Trick, who then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Nikki Newcomb.
Laura Carlson followed with single. Tessa Ewert followed with a two run RBI single, bringing in Trick and Newcomb. Lynn Wegner then hit a RBI single,bringing in Carlson, making it 3-0. Loose got the next batter Ashley Stork with a strike out.
The Eagles tried fighting back right away with some hits of their own against Hutchinson’s winning pitcher Lynn Wegner.
Jess Woodbury and Lis Wieneke each hit a single. Wegner put that to a end by striking out New Ulm’s Allison Kehren.
New Ulm had a big comeback win Friday

FAIRMONT — New Ulm's Sam Bergmann took medalist honors with an 81 at the Fairmont Cardinal Invitational Saturday.
Bergmann was seven strokes better than Casey Christiansen of Windom, who was the runner-up with an 89.

Jayhawks win two games
BREWSTER — The Madelia/Truman softball team won two games at the Southwest United Tournament Saturday.
The Jayhawks defeated Edgerton 12-2 in five innings in the first game.

ST. JAMES — The Sleepy Eye girls track and field team finished second with a score of 113.5 at the St. James Invite Friday.
Amanda Schmitz won the 100-meter dash in 13.46.
