NEW ULM — At 6-foot-4-inches, Tyler Gimmestad is built like a post. But he showed on Tuesday he can play like a guard. The Marshall forward finished with a game-high 22 points on three 3-pointers as Marshall defeated New Ulm 76-54 in nonconference boys basketball play. “That’s just the way he plays,” Marshall coach Tom Critchley Jr. said. “He can post up and can shoot the 3. He is really tough to guard that way.” Gimmestad entered the game 29 points away from 1,000, he got close Tuesday and will most certainly pass it when the Tigers play Windom at home Thursday. “He is just an all-around good basketball player,” Critchley said. “Not only can he shoot but he is a good passer too. They started to double him up underneath and was able to step back and showed he can shoot the 3 as well.” The game started out close with New Ulm holding a 7-6 lead on a Zach Quiring basket with 13:13 to go. From there, Marshall went on a 24-0 run and New Ulm never was really in the game again.
