Farewell to Bill O’Connor
TO THE EDITOR:
An Irish heart is still. William T. O’Connor, the standard bearer for the New Ulm Irish left us on May 8, 2008, and with his passing wonderful memories awaken of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
We had such fun finding new ways to spear the Germans in our community, which was always in good, clean fun.
Bill would compose and present the lette to Kevin Sweeney for his imprimatur and publication. What great times we had.
Bill did love New Ulm and all his German friends, and if he would have had time to write a letter of farewell I’m sure he would have told you all that.
I personally will miss him very much, and so eternal rest to you, my friend.

Some food shortage solutions
TO THE EDITOR:
Apparently food shortages are being experienced in many foreign countries. In our country of abundance we have noticed increases in food prices.
Capital for a Day event

At approximately 4:30 p.m.
Food AND fuel
TO THE EDITOR:
A firestorm of negative media about the ethanol industry seems to have become the current rage. The issue is usually presented as a moral controversy by casting it in terms of “food vs. fuel”.
Franken’s mistakes were honest
TO THE EDITOR:
The Journal’s recent editorial regarding Al Franken’s tax problems was misleading and not a full disclosure of the facts. Al Franken paid his taxes. However, he paid them to the wrong state.
Charter School is special
TO THE EDITOR:
What makes Lafayette Charter School so special?
This is a question I have found myself answering many times through the years. My husband and I moved our family here to Minnesota seven years ago from New Jersey.
