Getting used to things...

August 31, 2009 - Tessa Makepeace
At school today was a lot better. I had more of an idea of where I was going and I knew some of the people, which was nice. I still don’t have a schedule but I am just going with my friend Desiree. Most of my class has the same classes anyway. There was one interesting thing worth saying though. In German, there are two forms of you. There is the formal and the informal. The formal is used for people you don’t know well or people in a position of authority. Even when students have had a teacher for years, they use the formal form. Multiple times today I used the informal, to laughter from the class. Oh well.

I bought my own cell phone today too! Tomorrow my host sister will help me set it up. Then I can call and text in Germany J I am glad about that. Then I can just use it the whole year and have the same number.

Tonight my host parents threw me a party for my other host families and rotary contact people. I met my next host family, the von Graeves, the dad from my third host family, and people from Rotary. It was a good time and I’m glad that I got to meet my next family. They’re very nice and they have three children. My third family has five children and one is a three month old baby! That will be interesting. Everyone was friendly, though, and it was nice of my family to have it. On Tuesday I have to give a speech to Rotary saying who I am, where I come from, and why I wanted to be an exchange student. I don’t think it will be that bad though. On Monday I am going to start track too!
