| | Speaking of theatre...March 13, 2008 - Kevin SweeneyWhile I am on the subject of community theatre, I have a couple of kudos and a minor complaint. I think it is wonderful that two of our local school systems, the New Ulm Middle School and Holy Trinity Middle School, are having theatrical productions this spring. I have trod the boards a time or two, and I know that being in a play is about the most fun you can have without getting arrested. But do the plays have to be scheduled on the same weekend? This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, New Ulm Middle School is putting on a good old melodrama, “Peril on the High Seas.” Performances are at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. At the same exact days and time, Holy Trinity Middle School is putting on a musical, “The Velveteen Rabbit.” It makes for a busy weekend for theater lovers. Some people may not be able to see both. Some of those involved in one productions have friends in the other, and won’t be able to see it. We know schedules are set long in advance. But wouldn’t it be nice if the schools could make a call or two to see if their schedules conflict with something else?
