Time to get off the couch

April 4, 2011 - Kevin Sweeney
OK, this is it. Winter is about gone, and it’s time for me to get moving around.

A recent study found that Brown County is one of the healthiest counties in the state. This in spite of the fact that the rate of obesity is a bit higher in Brown County than the state average.

I blame myself for the obesity rating. I’ve never considered myself really overweight. Sure, my pants have been getting tighter in recent years but I figured that’s just shrinking fabric.

Recently, however, I had a checkup at the New Ulm Medical Center and my weight was 206 pounds. TWO HUNDRED AND SIX POUNDS! I’ve never been that heavy before. Plug that and my 5 foot, nine inch stature into a Body Mass Index calculator, and it spits out a rating of 30.4. I am officially obese!

So it’s time to start walking and exercising. I hate exercising. It feels too much like work. In fact, you’ll notice that the phrase “working out” has “work” stuck right in it. But if I ever want to be able to button my sportcoats again, I’d better start.
