Have respect for the National Anthem

To the editor:

We want to end the ungrateful lack of respect for the National Anthem. As young people we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and stood for the National Anthem at sporting eventss. In the service of the country I stood at attention and saluted the flag. I am a Vietnam veteran and a member of the American Legion, VFW and DAV.

All of us should stand for the National Anthem without political issues. Kneeling is done in church for belief in God. The Anthem was for the nation, at war with England, to stand for freedom from tyranny and in honor of the people who died. Our rights are in the Constitution, but we have to choose wisely what we protest.

The NFL had a rule for players to stand for the National Anthem. The owners must hear the negative reactions from the fans and military organizations. Those who are disappointed with the NFL have the right to not attend games and stop watching on TV. I am a Minnesota Vikings fan. Let’s all stand as one for the United States of America.
