He’ll gladly accept Gag painting

To the editor:

I offer a sincere DANKESCH-N to the citizens of New Ulm for the planned vote to display Anton Gag’s painting “Attack on New Ulm” in my living room, as reported by Kevin Sweeney in The Journal of Jan. 5. Unfortunately the only wall suitable in that room is already occupied by a modern original of Albrecht Dürer’s 1502 print titled “Der Hase” (“The Rabbit”) which I bought at Dürer’s Haus in Nürnberg in 2009 for 20 Euro. Instead I propose the west wall of the dining room which is large enough for this massive piece of art and appropriate interpretation, and which can be properly painted and lighted. (I may need help from the Picker-Uppers to move the heavy sideboard now up against that wall, for it is full of my mother’s 1925 wedding china.) My wife, Sharon and I, will be pleased to set reasonable hours and a modest entrance fee for public viewing of Gag’s historic work.
