Little progress on Minnesota River flooding

To the editor:

I see 100 years ago the New Ulm Mayor was concerned about the flooding of the Minnesota River Valley farm land.

Boy, have we made progress. Where is the farm land now in the valley? mostly grown up into willows.

We still try to pasture some of this bottom land and even this year, this is the fourth time we have had to move cattle to higher ground, and as I look at the holding areas in New Ulm, they are all empty.

Some of this land is classified as recreational land and some of us old timers are paying more tax per year than we paid for the land originally.
