Repainting donation from New Ulm Foundation

To the editor:

I would like to make a clarification on the funding for the re-painting of the “Welcome to New Ulm” sign on the Burdick Elevator. It was reported this week that the New Ulm City Council accepted a $2,000 donation from the Minnesota Community Foundation, in addition to 13 individual checks. In actuality, the $2,000 represented grant funds donated by the New Ulm Area Foundation, our local community foundation, which operates under the umbrella of the Minnesota Community Foundation strictly for fiscal services support.

The New Ulm Area Foundation has been in existence for 29 years, and currently has the wherewithal in its endowment funds to grant approximately $50,000 per year to non-profit organizations in the areas of its four pillars – arts, education, economic development, and historic preservation. More information on the New Ulm Area Foundation can be found on its website at newulmareafoundation.org/.
