Head Start canvassing counties

To the editor:

What is Head Start? Head Start promotes school readiness in children.

The Brown and Watonwan Counties Head Start Services receive grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Head Start and Early Head Start offer a variety of services depending upon the needs of the local community. Programs may be based in centers, school, or child care settings. Another program option is home -based services, in which a staff person visits children once a week in their own home.

What is school readiness? The office of Head Start defines school readiness as children being ready for school, families ready to support their children learning, and schools ready for the children who enter their doors.

The staff of Brown and Watonwan Counties will be canvassing the county on April 15, 2016. Canvassing means we will be walking the streets of Brown and Watonwan Counties. We will be canvassing as a way to recruit potential new families into our program. We are looking forwards to recruiting new families into our program.

The Head Start program connects families with services in regards to school readiness. When we are canvassing please take a few minutes out of your day to ask us questions regarding our program.

Thank you in advance.
