Eradicate vicious terrorist network
President Donald Trump is criticized often for his shoot-from-the-lip style. Not infrequently, his sometimes harsh tone is looked down upon.
But he had it exactly right on Monday.
Trump was speaking in the hours after a suicide bomber killed 22 people and wounded 59 at a concert hall in Manchester, England. Many of the victims were children. In all likelihood, the terrorist chose his target for that reason.
English authorities say the murderer was a British citizen of Libyan descent. Neighbors have said he often dressed in traditional Muslim attire. The Islamic State claimed credit for the slaughter.
Just a few months ago, then-President Barack Obama would have been hesitant and cautious in discussing the massacre. His reluctance to describe Islamic terrorism as that is well remembered.
Not Trump. His reaction: “This wicked ideology must be obliterated. And I mean completely obliterated.”
Precisely.
Note that Trump did not blame Muslims as a whole. Indeed, most of that religion seem to share the anger the rest of us do when attacks such as that in Manchester occur.
But a core group of leaders claiming to speak for the Islamic faith have mobilized the forces of darkness. It will continue to envelop us as long as they are permitted to spew their venom.
So yes, Trump is right: The evil ideology must be eliminated.
