Floyd Stanton Alwin

NEW ULM — Floyd Stanton Alwin of New Ulm, born November 25,1930 entered his heavenly home with his family by his side on April 15, 2019. He was the son of Stanley and Bertha (Gluth) Alwin. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1948 and immediately went into his father’s business of Alwin Electric. After selling his business in 1988 he worked at Kmart for 12 Ω years in the appliance and garden departments. He was also the greeter in which he would share his infectious smile to all who shopped there. Floyd was President of Friends of Flandrau and a Board member of the NU Chamber of Commerce. He volunteered for the food shelf, Brown County Volunteers, Lions Club, meals on wheels, and daffodil delivery. He was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, choir director, and many committees. As a certified Lay Speaker he shared his passion and love for Jesus at various churches in the surrounding area since 1953. Floyd had a deep appreciation for music. He also loved the out-of-doors, having walked over 300 miles of railroad tracks. He enjoyed hiking on state park trails, traveling (especially mountain country), mushroom hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping, gardening, tree planting, yard upkeep, and taking pictures of family on vacations.

On July 10, 1955 he married Carol Neuenfeldt, a fourth grade teacher from St. Paul and were blessed to have 5 children.

Floyd is survived by his wife Carol Alwin of New Ulm; his daughters, Julie (Mike) Brown of Elk River; Lauri (John) Hansen of Milwaukee, WI; Susan (Jon Bremseth) Joyce of Naples, FL; Jodie (Wayne Scanlan) Alwin of Hugo; his son, Steve (Rachel) Alwin of Chandler, AZ; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wallace Alwin; and his son-in-law, Michael Joyce.

In lieu of flowers, Floyd would like memorials to go to the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm or Friends of Flandrau.

Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm. Pastor JoAnne Taylor will officiate, and burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-South Chapel in New Ulm. The visitation will continue from 10-11 am on Saturday at the church in New Ulm.
