HANSKA — Donald M. “Don” Olson, 84, of Hanska died Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska with Pastor Sarah Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements. Donald is survived by his wife, Mae Olson of Hanska; daughter, Myla (Jerry) Turbes of Hanska; son, Garland Olson of Owatonna; grandchildren, Terry (Dawn) Turbes, Jessica (Brendt) Christensen, Katie (Skeeter) Walley, Lars Olson; great grandchildren, Dominick, Lily Christensen, Nicholes, Jonathan, Benjamin Turbes, Kaleigh, Khloe Walley; sister, Lois (Vern) Hopkins of Salina, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Dora Maye Olson; brother, Clayton Olson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Evelyn Johnson; step-father, Raymond Brandt.
Donald Marlow Olson was born on January 14, 1934 in Madelia to Carl and Inga (Bruggen) Olson. On June 18, 1952 he was united in marriage to Mae Carol Johnson at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. Donald worked for thirty seven years at Kraft Foods in New Ulm. He was an avid sportsman and loved to fish, hunt, golf, draw pictures of wildlife, woodwork, and watch the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Don and his family spent numerous summers on vacations on Lake Osakis and he and Mae enjoyed their trips to Texas in the winter. He was member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska.
