Elwin Herbert Schubbe

SPRINGFIELD — Elwin Herbert Schubbe, age 89, of Springfield, MN died on July 27, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 3, 2018, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN.

Service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church on Friday at 11:00 am.

The clergy will be Pastor Tricia Mattson. Interment will be at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

Elwin Herbert Schubbe Jr. was born on November 6, 1928, in Mankato, MN, the son of Elwin H. and Malinda (Benz) Schubbe. He attended Perch Lake Country School #59 and graduated from Pemberton High School and graduated from Gustavus University in 1962. After his education, he served in the U.S. Army for 4 years. After his honorable discharge, he then enlisted with the Army Reserves and was called to serve in Vietnam from April of 1968 until August of 1969. He served with the Reserves for over 27 years, receiving a Bronze Star. Elwin was united in marriage to Adeline Stage on January 31, 1975. He was interested in business and held ownership in an Implement Dealership, owned and managed different restaurants and ballrooms over the years, taught at Pine Technical College, was a real estate agent and invested in properties and a variety of businesses. He enjoyed working, especially on accounting, and collecting coins, stamps, and toy tractors. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served on many committees and has served as Commander at Springfield and Sanborn Legion Club.

He is survived by his wife – Adeline of Springfield; step children – Jane Altenhofen of Gardendale, TX, Deb Salonek of Springfield, and Kerry (Barb) Jenzen of Springfield; grandchildren; and great grandchildren; and siblings – Eileen (Joe) Oldenburg of Cheyenne, WY, Donald Schubbe of Bemidji, MN, James (Dorothea) Schubbe of Fishers, IN, Charles (Audrey) Schubbe of Mapleton, MN, Marvin (Vivian) Schubbe of Mapleton, MN, Shirley (Stanley) Thompson of Sandstone, MN, and Carol (Chuck) Grams of Janesville, MN, He was preceded in death by his parents; step sons Todd Salonek and John Altenhofen; a brother Glenn; and sisters-in-law – Shirley and Jenny Schubbe.
