NEW ULM — Donald J. Kraus, age 89, of New Ulm died Friday, June 29, 2018, at his home in New Ulm with his family at his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm.

Donald is survived by his wife of over 67 years, LaVonne Kraus; sons, Greg (Susan) Kraus of New Ulm, Steve (Wendy) Kraus of New Ulm, Pat (Barb) Kraus of New Ulm; five grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis (Jerry) Martinka of Mankato; brother, Tom (Elaine) Kraus of New Ulm and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Katherine Kraus and infant brother, Linus.
Donald J. Kraus was born October 26, 1928 in New Ulm to Charles and Veronica (Hoffman) Kraus. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1947. Shortly after high school, Donald married the love of his life, LaVonne Altmann, on November 25, 1950 in St. George. The couple was blessed with five children, whom together they raised in New UIm. Donald’s career started at the Hauenstein Brewery, spanning from 1943-1965. He then went to work for Tachtronics from 1965-1973 and eventually to 3M from 1973-1991 where he retired. Besides his work there were a variety of hobbies that brought Donald great joy in life. Don was a lifelong outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was also the perpetual tinkerer and handyman. His witty sense of humor and genuine smile will be forever remembered by all who knew him. Besides his work, and his hobbies, what he loved most in life was his family. He truly cherished all the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. Donald was a member St. Mary’s Catholic Church and also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Blessed be his memory.
