Bernice Grewe

ARLINGTON — Bernice Grewe, age 92 of Arlington passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Golden Hearts Senior Living Center in Arlington.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3rd at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Mountville, rural Gaylord. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington with visitation continuing one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Bernice (Petzel) Grewe was born on October 28, 1925 in Kelso Township, Sibley County to Andy and Louisa (Kroells) Petzel. She was baptized on November 15th by Rev. Bruss and confirmed on April 10, 1938 by Rev. H.M. Alwitzus. On June 8, 1949 she married Lorenz Grewe at St. John Lutheran Church of New Rome. After their marriage the couple purchased a farm in Green Isle Township where they lived and farmed 41 years before building a new house and moving to Arlington in 1990. On June 8, 2004 Bernice and Lorenz celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary shortly before Lorenz’s death on August 12, 2004. Bernice was a member of St. John Lutheran Church-Mountville and the Martha circle. She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising poultry, gardening, especially flower gardening and raising Geraniums, embroidering, crocheting, fishing and card playing.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, Andy & Louisa Petzel; parents-in-law, Martin & Augusta Grewe; husband, Lorenz; brothers, Earl and LeRoy; brother-in-law, Merrill Sickmann; one niece; and four nephews.

She is survived by her sister, Irene Sickmann; brother and sisters-in-law, Milo & Florence, Berdina Petzel and Doris Petzel all of Arlington; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Eugene & Carol Grewe of Gaylord; and other relatives, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Casket bearers for the funeral will be Bruce Lilienthal, Dale Wisch, Gary Weckwerth, Marlin Petzel, Kenneth Petzel, and Daryl Petzel. Honorary casket bearers are Nelva Lilienthal, Virginia Wisch and Debra Weckwerth.

Memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church-Mountville Cemetery Fund.
