Doris V. Saffert
SLEEPY EYE — Doris V. Saffert age 88, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on April 17, 2018, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm and will continue on Thursday from 7:30 until 10 am at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
Service will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 10:30 am.
The clergy will be Msgr. John Richter.
Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

Doris Viola Saffert was born on August 2, 1929 in New Ulm, MN to Hugo E. & Mary Ann (Saffert) Meidl. She graduated in 1947 at Holy Trinity in New Ulm and attended Johnson’s Beauty School College for 2 years and worked at Sallets in Mankato modeling bridal wear. Doris worked with her cousin as a hairdresser in a Salon in New Ulm. She married Gilbert Saffert on May 16, 1949 at Holy Trinity in New Ulm. After marriage she helped Gilbert on the farm. Doris wrote the Sanborn Social News for the Springfield Advance Press. She was in Extension Club, 4-H Leader, Choir Director, taught CCD, was a member of the Alter Society at St. Thomas in Sanborn and the Albany Pioneer Club and was crowned queen of Pioneer Days in 2002 and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Doris also enjoyed embroidery, quilting, crocheting, gardening, playing piano and singing and playing bitchin rummy.
She is survived by children, Karen Weiss of Sleepy Eye, Alan (Jody) Saffert of Windom, Roxane (Sherman) Johnson of Woodinville, WA, Renee Willhite of Sauk Centre, Doreen Saffert of Mankato, honorary daughter, Jean Jacobs of Mankato, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. siblings, Ray Meidl of New Ulm, Paul (Joey) Meidl of New Ulm, Yvonne (Harold) Windschitl of Sleepy Eye, Lorraine (Leo) Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye, Lois Johnston of Cottage Grove, OR and sisters-in-law, Rita Meidl of Austin and Beth Meidl of Lakeville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gilbert, great grandson, Finnley Thomes, brothers, Hugo and Martin, sisters, Barbara Farrell, Donna Windhorn, Marlys Meidl, Catherine Arndt and sons-in-law, Victor Weiss and Michael Willhite.
