NEW ULM — Raymond “Ray” Hager, 79, of New Ulm died Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop after a eight month battle with Pancreatitis.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 at Oakwood Church in New Ulm with Pastor Jason Mehring officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Ray is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marcella “Sally” Hager of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Rosemarie Hager of Minneapolis; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Tim Harmening of Courtland; granddaughter, Erica and her husband, Brandon Bagaason, and daughter, Pia, and son, Joaquin of Minneapolis; grandsons, Max Hager of Minneapolis, Alex Harmening and partner, Hannah Tressler, and daughter Lily; granddaughter, Gina Harmening of Courtland; brother, Allen and his wife, Sonia, and children of White Bear Lake; sisters, Bonnie Hager of New Ulm, Gail and husband Douglas Cutler, and children of Mankato. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Minnie Hager and Miles MacMaster, son, Raymond Todd Hager, Jr.; half brother, Hank MacMaster.

Raymond Albert Hager was born on Feb. 6, 1939 in Sleepy Eye to Miles MacMaster and Minnie (Franke) and later adopted by Walter Hager. Ray graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School in 1957. On December 5, 1960 he was united in marriage to Marcella Sellner in Brookings, South Dakota. After marriage they lived in Sleepy Eye, Springfield, and then in New Ulm for the rest of his life. He worked as an all around handy man, and carpenter. He served one year with the Brown County Civil Defense, two years with the Sleepy Eye Civil Defense and Police Department. Then three years with the Springfield Police Department. Then 26 years with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department, retiring in 1994. After retirement he worked with his son Todd and son-in-law Tim, as Hager Home Improvement. After Todd’s death, the business was dissolved in 2001. During his life he belonged to several Police organizations. Served on the Minnesota Police Officers Standards and Training and on many Ad Hoc committees. He served as a Federally appointed local board member of Local Board 17 of the Selective Service System for over 20 years. Ray enjoyed family, fishing, hunting, traveling, card playing, oil painting of landscapes, old Country Music, Old Time Music, and 50’s Rock and Roll. He especially enjoyed having family and friends at their cabin. Ray was a member of Oakwood Church in New Ulm.
