Valeria Ann Kovash was born on April 29, 1936 to William T. and Josephine (Jedlicka) Kovash on her aunt Rosie’s farm near New Hradec, North Dakota. She attended Saints Peter and Paul Parish Elementary School in New Hradec, N.D. and graduated from Model High School in Dickinson, N.D. in 1954. On October 4, 1955, she married Edwin S. Praus. Together they had three children: Sue, Bill and Anne. They later divorced.

Val worked primarily in the restaurant business as a hostess and banquet manager. Places of employment included the Ramada Inn and the Interstate Inn in Dickinson, N.D. She retired from Mom’s Kitchen in Fargo, N.D. Val lived many places during her life, including Tacoma, WA; Torrance, CA; Dickinson, ND; Fargo, ND; Moorhead, MN; New Berlin, WI; Cary, NC; and finally in New Ulm, MN for the past nearly-eight years.

Survivors include daughters Susan (Mark) Ullery, New Ulm, MN and Anne (Adan) Alonzo, New Berlin, WI; and son William J. (Jessica) Kovash, Seattle, WA; five grandchildren; sister-in-law Delores Kovash, Duluth, MN; nieces and nephews; and special friend Roberta O’Brien.

Valeria was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Leonard Kovash.

Val was a classy, curious, observant, kind and thoughtful person with a wry sense of humor who was accepting and non-judgemental. Those who came to know her considered her a friend. She loved flowers and plants, enjoyed reading, and solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Val surfed the web and checked her email daily. She enjoyed her extensive collection of miniature shoes and purses and was very creative.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Allina Hospice or New Ulm Public Library.
