Richard “Dick” Meyer

Richard “Dick” Meyer, 72, of Sturgis, South Dakota, formerly of Mound, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 at All Saints Senior Living in Shakopee.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.. on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Pastor Doyal Van Gelder officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 4 -7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Richard Raymond Meyer was born Sept. 10, 1945 in New Ulm, to August and Caroline (Plautz) Meyer. He was a 1964 graduate of New Ulm High School. Dick served in the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage to Connie Lou Wieland on July 3, 1964 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. The couple raised two daughters. Dick was employed as a butcher at Armour Meat packing plant in South St. Paul and then worked for Tescom Corporation in Plymouth. He then started his own business, operating Meyer’s Mound Service Station in Mound. Lastly, he owned and operated C and D Sales, a unique motorcycle and antique store in Sturgis until the present. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and boating. Dick’s other favorite pastimes included motorcycling and snowmobiling. He was a well-known collector of antiques, specializing in motorcycle toys. Dick was a member of Lions Club and the American Legion in Mound.

Dick is survived by his wife, Connie Meyer of Sturgis; his daughters, Kelli (Chris) Ellickson of Apple Valley, Wendy Edberg of Shakopee; grandchildren, Zack, Ashley, Nick and Amanda; sisters, Carol Lambrecht of Chanhassen, Judy Meyer of Maplewood; and a sister-in-law, Linda Meyer of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents Augie and Caroline Meyer, brother Robert Meyer; and his son-in-law, Robert Edberg.
