NEW ULM — Jerry “JC” Christiansen, 75, of New Ulm died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 at Mayo Health Systems in Rochester.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father Garrett Ahlers celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. The St. Patrick’s Council of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph’s-St. Elizabeth’s Catholic United will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jerry is survived by his wife, JoAnn Christiansen of New Ulm; his sons, Jon (Julie) Christiansen of Overland Park, Kansas, Todd (Sara) Christiansen of New Ulm; grandchildren, Brady, Jase, Mark, Rose and Carina; sisters, Helen (Paul) Sellner of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lois (Wally) Stadick of New Ulm, Jane (Bill) Berens of St. Paul; brothers, David (Karen) Christiansen of New Ulm, James (Jenna) Christiansen of Minneapolis, Rick (Gwen) Christiansen of New Ulm; and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister Patricia.

Jerry Frederic Christiansen was born August 24, 1942 in New Ulm to Ervin “Kay” and Arline (Ranweiler) Christiansen. He was a 1960 graduate of Cathedral High School. Jerry was united in marriage to JoAnn Jost on July 8, 1967 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph. After marriage they resided in New Ulm where Jerry was employed at the City of New Ulm Street Department as the Assistant Street Commissioner. He also served 27 years in the Minnesota National Guard as a Battalion Operations Sargent. Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #132, Turner Halle, New Ulm Country Club and volunteered as an Assistant Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a lifetime member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity where he served on the Parish Council, sang with the Chorale and also served on the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools Board.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to New Ulm Area Catholic Schools and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
