Theodore “Ted” C. Schmidt
NORTHFIELD — Theodore “Ted” C. Schmidt, age 69, of Northfield, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Ted was born November 22, 1947, the son of Vernon and Margaret (FitzGerald) Schmidt in Malden, MA. At a young age, he moved with his family to New Ulm where he was raised, attended Cathedral and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1965. He entered the United States Marine Corp and served two tours in Vietnam. After receiving his honorable discharge, Ted made a life in Northfield. Local companies he worked for included Sheldahl, Northfield Freezing Systems and Mulligan Landscaping. He married Kathleen Keefe on March 20, 1999 at Spring Garden Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls.
Ted was a man of honor and integrity. A larger than life figure who had a great love for his family and friends. He was an active member of the community, a member of the Jaycees, Troop Leader of the Boy Scouts and served on the City Planning Commission. His hobbies included first and foremost fishing, cooking, metalworking and carpentry.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Northfield; his children Stephanie (Michael) Collins of New Hampton, NH, Megan Pratola (Jason Pollington) of Montgomery, Ralph Pratola of Northfield; grandchildren Dylan and Savannah Collins and Preston and Michael Pollington. Ted is also survived by his brother Mark (Lois) Schmidt of North Dartmouth, MA, David Schmidt of Fargo, ND, and his sister Kathleen (Peter) Lowry of Burnsville. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald (Cathy) Schmidt.
Funeral services for Ted will be Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. Arrangements by Benson & Langehough Funeral Home.
