SLEEPY EYE — Joseph “Joe” Hoffmann, 82, of Sleepy Eye died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John Richter and Father Jeff Horejsi celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldier’s Rest Section, with full military honors provided by the Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hoffmann of Sleepy Eye; daughter, Jackie (Dale) Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye; son, John (Miriam) Hoffmann of New Ulm; grandchildren, Heather (Phil) Schauman, Melissa (Stephan) Alt, Josh Kuebler, Brady Hoffmann, Aaron Hoffmann; brothers, Ambrose (Donna) Hoffmann of New Ulm, Ignatius (Phyllis) Hoffmann, Linus (Shirley) Hoffmann, Robert (Joleen) Hoffmann all of Sleepy Eye; many nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Angeline (Francis) Ibberson, Agnes (Delmar) Helget; brothers, Leo C. Hoffmann, and Lawrence Hoffmann in infancy.

Joseph Roman Hoffmann was born on December 18, 1934 in Sleepy Eye to Ignatius and Eleanore (Kral) Hoffmann. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. On June 27, 1959 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Goblish at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn. Joe had so many interests, he was a devoted farmer, and drove truck hauling sweet corn for Del Monte in Sleepy Eye for many years. He enjoyed his shop fixing things and using his large industrial equipment that were his toys: his Crawler, Backhoe, and Scraper, and he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Joseph was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, and the D.A.V.
