Paul Kotten

NEW ULM — Paul Kotten, age 85, of New Ulm, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 am on Monday, February 27, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery where the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors.

Visitation will be from 3-6 pm on Sunday and 7:30-10:00 am on Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Paul is survived by his wife, Carol Kotten of New Ulm; son, Daniel (Shari) Kotten of New Ulm; grandchildren, Mya, Dylan, and Joey Kotten all of New Ulm; sister, Colette (Frank) Condon of Hopkins; sister-in-law, Jan Schreiner of New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Paul Kotten Jr. in 1995; and a brother-in-law, Bill Schreiner.

Paul Kotten was born on September 6, 1931 in Albin Township to Otto and Clara (Windschitl) Kotten. Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 and was stationed in Alaska. On October 15, 1960, Paul was united in marriage to Carol Groehler at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. The couple was blessed with two sons whom together they raised in New Ulm. Earlier in his career, Paul worked for Wallner Construction and eventually retired from M&R Paving and Excavating of New Ulm. Besides his work, Paul had a variety of hobbies he enjoyed in life. He had a great love for the outdoors, especially time he got to spend gardening and fishing. Also active in his community and church, Paul was a member of the Siefert-Bianchi Post 132 American Legion in New Ulm, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church of New Ulm.
