SPRINGFIELD — Marie Eva Lang, age 90, of Springfield died on Feb. 17, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. The clergy will be Father Phil Schotzko. Interment will be at St. Raphael’s Catholic Cemetery in Springfield.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 to10:30 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. There will be a Parish Prayer Service on Monday at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.

Marie Eva Lang was born on July 19 1926 to George and Edith (Kastner) Saffert on a farm in Stately Township, rural Sanborn. She married Wilbert Lang of Springfield at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn on Oct. 27, 1948. The couple farmed in Burnstown Township, southeast of Springfield. Marie enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery, baking cakes for 25 years, sewing, canning, flowers, and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and special time baking with her grandchildren. She was member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.

She is survived by her children: Janice (Jack) Christensen of Milroy, Brenda (Sheldon Israel) Cornelius of Prescott, WI, Cherie Lang of Springfield, Steven Lang of Springfield, Daniel (Cathy) Lang of Springfield, Michael (Suzanne) Lang of Burnsville, Barry Lang of New Ulm; grandchildren: John Christensen of Milroy, Holly (Jeremy) Hoffbeck of Morgan, Kristie (David) Baumgartner of Sioux Falls, SD, Danielle Lang of New Brighton, Anna Lang of Springfield, and Caitlin Lang of Springfield; great-grandchildren: Alex Christensen, Sylvia and Stella Baumgartner; sisters: Loretta Wenisch of Springfield, and Adeline Roiger of Fairfax; and sisters-in-law Doris Saffert of Sleepy Eye, Evie Saffert of Springfield, and Esther Saffert of Lamberton. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wilbert in March of 1997; brothers: Edwin, Gilbert, Greg, Dennis, and Donald; brother-in-law Lawrence Roiger; and sister-in-law Florence Saffert.
