LuVern C. Giefer

LuVern “Buddy” C. Giefer, age 82 of Nicollet died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Cottagewood Senior Living in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Rev. Paul van de Crommert officiating. Burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Swan Lake, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Memorials may be given to Holy Rosary Catholic Church or the donor’s choice.

LuVern C. Giefer was born August 24, 1934 to Edmund and Grace (Meurer) Giefer in Swan Lake, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Marion Mans on April 17, 1961 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. LuVern farmed his entire life in the Swan Lake, Nicollet County area.

LuVern was a member of Church of Visitation, Swan Lake, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Nicollet, and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Nicollet Conservation Club.

LuVern enjoyed flying his plane, time spent at the lake cabin, skiing, hunting, fishing and most of all, his family.

LuVern is survived by his wife, Marion of Nicollet; four children, Kelly (Dave) Bode of North Mankato; Brett (Bonnie) Giefer of Nicollet, Joan (Jeff) Klein of Elk River, Lucy Nelson of North Mankato; 10 grandchildren, Briana (David) Gullixson, Lucas Bode, Blake Bode, Julia Giefer, Edmund Giefer, Andrew Giefer, Marcus Giefer, Nicholas Nelson, Nathan Nelson, Matthew Nelson; one great-granddaughter, Jaci Gullixson; sisters-in-law, Roberta Molitor, and Patricia (Paul) Bogen.

Preceded in death by his parents, brother, DuWayne (Mickey) Giefer; brother-in-law, Wallace Molitor.
