Brown County Sheriff

At 4:06 p.m. Oct. 29, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a call in which it was reported that an individual was involved in a hunting accident just north of address of 33070 327th Ave., Morgan, in Brown County.

Nadia Meyers, 16, was party-hunting for small game when another member of the same hunting party shot at a rabbit and struck Nadia Meyers in the back of her legs at a distance of 91-feet with a bird shot.

Meyers was transported by the Morgan Ambulance Service to the Sleepy Eye Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Morgan Ambulance Service and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are investigating the hunting/shooting incident.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind hunters about hunting safety practices during the upcoming hunting season:

• Treat every firearm as if it were loaded

• Only point at what you plan to shoot.

• Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

• Before shooting, clearly identify your target and what is beyond the target.

McLeod County

On Oct. 27 at 11:21 a.m., the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fire at Anytime Auto on Highway 7 and Falcon Avenue owned by Joel Zellman, 52, of Silver Lake. Also responding were the State Patrol, Silver Lake Fire, Silver Lake Police, the Silver Lake Ambulance, Lester Prairie Fire, the Glencoe Fire, the Hutchinson Fire, and Allina Ambulance. Dennis Bernier, 45, of Stewart received burn injuries in the fire and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. The shop and a nearby barn were a total loss. This case has been turned over to the State Fire Marshall for investigation.
