Sleepy Eye Police

On Sept. 6 the Sleepy Eye Police Department received a report from St Mary’s School. St Mary’s school received this report on 9-6-18. The report stated that on 8-30-18 a 6th grade student was walking home from school when a black smaller SUV with a male and female in it stopped and asked the student if they wanted a ride home. The student said no and the vehicle drove away. The student did not recognize the people.

The Sleepy Eye Police Department would like all parents to speak with their children on accepting rides from strangers and what to do if they are confronted with a situation like these. The Sleepy Eye Police Department would like additional information about this incident or similar incidents. Contact the PD at 507-794-3711.

New Ulm Police

• Received a two-vehicle crash report with no reported injuries at Cottonwood Street and Broadway at 1:13 p.m. Wednesday. A 2005 Pontiac G6 driven by Beau B. Carbert, 32, New Ulm, was northbound when he turned right and clipped the front of a 2019 International semi truck driven by Ricky H. Hibbens, 59, El Doado Sprigs, Mo. who was stopped at a stop sign on Cottonwood St. Damage was minor to the semi and moderate to the Pontiac.

• Received a two-vehicle crash report with injuries at 2nd South and Street Street at 10:18 a.m. Thursday. A 2004 Toyota Highlander driven by Olivia F. Hoeschen, 20, St. Paul, was northbound on State Street and a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Allen J. Carlson, 46, Waconia, was westbound on 2nd South Street when the vehicles collided in the intersection. Damage was moderate to both vehicles. Both drivers felt dizzy after the crash and were checked out by ambulance paramedics. Nobody was transported to the hospital.


State Patrol

• Received a two-vehicle crash report with non-life-threatening injuries at the intersection of State Highway 68 and Blue Earth CR 42, Judson Township at 8:09 p.m. Wednesday. A 2004 Toyota Camry driven by Rachel E. Hernandez, 18, Mankato, was southbound on CR 42 when she failed to stop for a stop sign and hit the right rear of a 2015 Buick Enclave driven by Gerald D. Schmitt, 53, Hanska. A passenger in the Buick, Laura M. Schmitt, 13, Hanska, was transported to New Ulm Medical Center. Hernandez was transported to a Mankato hospital. Airbags deployed in both vehicles. Alcohol was not involved. All people wore seat belts. The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, Gold Cross Ambulance, Lake Crystal Police, Fire and Ambulance assisted.
