New Ulm Police
Police received a burglary report at 6:56 a.m. Wednesday morning from R&R Bait & Tackle at 1405 N. Broadway. Three firearms valued at $1,300 were taken from the business during the night. Police said there was evidence of forced entry.
On Aug. 29 at 12:08 p.m., the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of 830th Avenue and 330th Street in Troy Township. This location is 1 mile north of Olivia. The caller reported that a passenger in one of the vehicles was injured but that all occupants were out of the vehicles.
Responders on scene located a 2018 Jeep Renegade that was driven by Lawrence Weiss, 39, of Olivia and a 2000 Ford service truck driven by Sean Bauman, 34, of Olivia. Weiss’ passenger Stephanie Weiss, 43, of Olivia sustained injuries and was later transported to the Renville County Hospital and Clinic with unknown injuries.
The investigation showed that Weiss was traveling east on 830th Avenue and entered an uncontrolled intersection. Bauman was traveling south on 330th Street and also entered the intersection, colliding with Weiss’ vehicle. Weiss’ vehicle then rolled onto the passenger side as it entered the ditch eventually coming to a stop on its wheels.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
