MnDOT urges motorists to use caution on Highway 14

Tree removal to begin May 21 in preparation for

Highway 14

construction

MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists are advised to use caution on Highway 14 through Mankato and North Mankato starting Monday, May 21, as workers begin removing trees in preparation for construction.

There will be intermittent should closures, but no lane closures are anticipated. Motorists should remove distractions and be aware of workers in the area.

Tree removal is needed for completing culvert repair work at multiple locations, with most of it occurring on Highway 14 between Riverfront Drive and Highway 22.

The tree removal is preliminary work for the construction project on Highway 14 from Mankato to North Mankato scheduled to begin June 11, weather permitting. During Highway 14 construction, motorists will experience traffic delays due to lane closures, lane shifts and periodic ramp closures as crews work through the area in segments.

Six miles of construction on Highway 14 from Lookout Drive to Highway 22 includes:

Resurfacing sections of the highway

Repairing deteriorated culvert sections, including a large culvert at Thomson Creek

Repairing ditch along westbound Lor Ray Drive exit ramp

Updating pedestrian sidewalk ramps at 3rd Avenue and Riverfront Drive interchanges

Updating median guardrail at bridges

Repairing pavement approaches to bridges over Victory Drive and the railroad near Eagle Lake

OMG Midwest (Southern Minnesota Construction) of Mankato, MN, was awarded the project with a bid of $5.3 million.
