Wilder Pageant rescheduled

WALNUT GROVE — Heavy rain, flooding, storm damage and cleanup have pushed back the opening of the Wilder Pageant Production. This weekend’s shows have been rescheduled. Performances will now run Thursday, Friday and Saturday for two weekends. Dates are now July 12, 13, 14 and July 19, 20 and 21. Current ticket holders may exchange tickets for any of the other performances. Pageant Suppers and the Family Festival are cancelled for this weekend.

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant in Walnut Grove could be called the Big Flood on the Prairie. With over nine inches of rain in a very short time, several Southwest Minnesota communities lost power, saw roads washed out with many flood and no travel warnings.

Plum Creek took a lead role and covered the pageant site in three to eight feet of water. There was damage to sets, costumes, sound and light equipment as well as access roads at the Wilder Pageant site. The extent of the repairs will be fully determined when the water recedes. Cast, crew and community are pitching in to clean, rebuild and repair the site so that the 41st production will be a success.

Produce Tuesday on July 10

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf & Second Harvest Food Bank are offering produce, fruit, bakery items and miscellaneous items. Distribution will be Tuesday, July 10 from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at 1305 South Valley Street, New Ulm.

Signup begins at 10 a.m. Bring your own bags or boxes. Please do not arrive more than 30 minutes before the event starts as we will be unloading the truck and setting up. The goal is that no one goes hungry, so this distribution is open to anyone who needs help.

If items are available after our closing time, we may leave some under the awning for you to pick up later that day. Updates will be posted on the New Ulm Emergency Food Shelf Facebook page.

The food given during “Produce Tuesday” is brought from Second Harvest the same day. No food donated for the New Ulm Food Shelf’s normal operations is used for this surplus.
