Al Batt to speak at UCC on Oct. 1

NEW ULM — Al Batt of Hartland, writer speaker, storyteller and humorist, will be the guest speaker at 10 a.m., Sunday Oct. 1, at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm.

The service is open to the public.

Batt is a columnist for “Bird Watchers Digest”, writes for a number of magazines and books, hosted TV shows, and created several popular cartoon strips.

He is also the author of “A Life Gone to the Birds.”

Polka Party Extravaganza

NEW ULM — Want to dance with one of New Ulm’s Narren? Or hop to a good polka? How about sway to a lovely waltz? Or maybe just sit back, relax, and enjoy the happy sounds of concertina music? Then try the Polka Party Extravaganza being held Saturday, Sept.r 23, noon to 4 p.m.. at the State Street Theater where there is plenty of room to do all of the foregoing.

Sponsored by the Sleepy Eye Concertina Club (SECC), in addition to the Narren, it features musicians Donnie Klossner with John Arsers from noon to 1; Johnny Helget with Nick Stadick from 1 to 2; and the Sleepy Eye Concertina Club from 2 till 4.

BBQs and Hot dogs will be available for sale, as will Schell’s products and other refreshments. Cost for admission at the door is $12; children 12 and under, $3. Proceeds will benefit the State Street Theater Capital Campaign.

The popular SECC is known area-wide for their generosity in playing for many worthwhile causes, among them, Relay for Life, at nursing homes, and at other events and places.
