Weight loss support group meeting

NEW ULM – The New Ulm Weight Loss Surgery Support Group is meeting Monday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the New Ulm Medical Center Auditorium on the third floor. No fee or registration is required. Confidentiality and respect are a must. Family and friends are also welcome.

The purpose of the group is to provide a safe place to share similar experiences, adjust to new life styles and provide support and information to those who are thinking of having a weight loss surgery. Research shows that patients who regularly attend a support group will lose more weight and keep it off compared to someone who doesn’t attend a support group.

Call Sue Schommer, group facilitator and dietitian for the New Ulm Medical Center, at 507-217-5639 for more information.

Holly Glaubitz to Present at Worksite Wellness Event

NEW ULM – Holly Glaubitz, who worked with Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm Project from 2008-2014 and guided numerous area worksites in getting their health promotion efforts off the ground, will be the featured speaker at an upcoming worksite wellness event.

The third quarterly networking and worksite wellness training event for New Ulm-area employers will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Best Western, 2101 S. Broadway.

In her presentation, “Low-Hanging Fruit: How to Improve Employee Health Without an Official Program or a Huge Budget,” Glaubitz will share how even companies that don’t offer wellness programming can successfully engage more than just the same few people in their worksite wellness efforts. Attendees will learn how to tackle common challenges with low-cost, effective approaches to reach the masses and also have an opportunity to network with their peers on the topic.

Glaubitz is an energetic presenter who is passionate about health and wellness and has worked in the industry for more than 20 years. In her current position as Wellness Program Coordinator at the Minnesota Department of Health, she works with grantees throughout the state of Minnesota on their workplace initiatives through the Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP). She also previously worked as a Wellness Program Coordinator for StayWell. Glaubitz has a bachelor’s degree in physical health management from Dakota State University and a master’s degree in public administration from Drake University.

The worksite wellness event is being planned and coordinated by Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm Project; New Ulm Medical Center’s Occupational Health and Wellness Services; New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce; and Healthy Together, a partnership of Brown, Nicollet, Le Sueur and Waseca Counties funded by the Minnesota Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP).

Cost is $10 including lunch (cash or check only). Advance registration is required by Oct. 21 by emailing info@heartsbeatback.org. You may cancel your registration or transfer it to someone else in your organization up until Oct. 21 without penalty. If you register and no one from your organization shows up, you will be invoiced for the $10 lunch. More details, visit tinyurl.com/NewUlm-Worksites.
