Lake Life is Good: Snowfest this Saturday

NEW ULM — New Ulm Area Catholic Schools invites the community to attend its annual Snowfest fundraiser from 3:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at St. Anthony Elementary School.

This year, the event is Minnesota summer, lake-themed, titled “Lake Life is Good.” Snowfest includes a variety of events with games, lots of interesting items in the silent and live auctions and summertime food including a German meal served from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the lunchroom.

The German supper menu includes a smoked brat, German potato salad, sauerkraut and rye bread. For those who prefer a more American-style meal, hamburgers, baked beans, corn on the cob and watermelon will also be served.

Snowfest also offers bingo from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The bingo payout is half the pot for each game, with cards priced at $1 for regular games and $5 for blackout games.

The afternoon also features a large silent auction with all sorts of items, including handmade items crafted and donated by students from St. Anthony Elementary and Cathedral High School.

Also kicking off at 5 p.m. are a bean bag tournament, pull tab gambling and wine pull. A full bar serving beer, wine and mixed drinks will also be available for thirsty event-goers.

At 8 p.m., NUACS’ popular live auction will kick off, offering items such as concert tickets, professional sports tickets, gift cards and much more.

Items featured in the live auction are donated by New Ulm area businesses and individuals.

“Snowfest is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” the Director of Development and Marketing at New Ulm Area Catholic Schools Sara Rieland said. “It’s one of the key contributors to our annual fundraising budget.”

Rieland said the funds raised during Snowfest go towards ongoing operations at NUACS. The funds help pay for salaries, textbooks and building improvements.

Those attending Snowfest must be at least 21.

Entrance to Snowfest is via the St. Anthony Elementary front doors at 514 N. Washington St.
