Mapleton receives 12.5 inches of snow

MINNEAPOLIS — Snowfall amounts for Friday, Jan. 18 varied greatly across southern Minnesota, according to volunteer weather observers reporting to the National Weather Service.

Mapleton and Slayton received 12.5 inches, leading the way. A foot of snow was measured at Winnebago, 11 inches three miles north of Manchester, 10.8 at Windom, 10.5 inches at Albert Lea, 10 inches at Sherburn, 9 inches at Blue Earth and Granada, 8.5 at New Richland, 8 at Amboy, Glenville and Ellendale; 6 inches at St. James and Fairmont, 5.7 at Owatonna, 5 at Mankato and Redwood Falls, 4.8 at Waseca, 4.7 at five miles north of Sveadahl, 4.6 three miles south of New Ulm, 4.5 at Springfield, 3.7 at St. Peter, 3.2 at Winthrop.
