The New Ulm Figure Skating Club hosted the 22nd annual Fall Festival Competition, Saturday.
The two day figure skating event featured around 180 skaters from eight skating clubs in Minnesota and South Dakota. In addition to New Ulm, clubs from Brookings, Hutchinson, Sioux Falls, Inver Grove Heights, Cottage Grove, White Bear Lake, Buffalo and Minneapolis Augsburg.
The New Ulm Figure Skating Club alone has a total of 63 members and most competed this weekend.
New Ulm’s Figure Skating Club Competition Director Eleanor Kolb said the turnout this year was significantly higher than last year. She credits the recent Winter Olympics for increasing the popularity of figure skating.
This year the competition includes individual events, couple skates, club competitions and even a family event.
