Human Rights Award ceremony Oct. 23

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Human Rights Commission is awarding its 2018 Human Rights Award to Alma Marín Millán of New Ulm.

A native of Bolivia, Marin has lived in several countries throughout Latin America. She has dedicated years to public service, serving on multiple commissions and committees whose purpose is to uphold the rights of all humans, regardless of race, sex, age, color or creed, national origin, religion or sexual orientation.

The public is invited to celebrate Alma Marin at the New Ulm Community Center on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. Guest speaker at the ceremony will be Alison Griffith, an immigration staff attorney with the Advocates for Human Rights’ Refugee and Immigrant Program located in Minneapolis. Griffith will discuss current immigration issues specifically as they relate to human rights.
