NEW ULM — Construction work continues at the front of the New Ulm Post Office, 27 S. German St., this week.

The post office is undergoing construction that will include the installation of new drain tile. It will replace damaged tile that caused basement water intrusion, New Ulm Post Office Postmaster David L. Wintheiser said.

The customer parking lot will be closed during the entire project, which began Oct. 8 and is estimated to last about four weeks.

To access the post office, you can park on either side of German Street or 1st Street South and walk into the parking lot through fenced-in areas.

If you’d prefer not to deal with the construction, blue collection boxes are located at 1 N. Minnesota St., 101 N. Minnesota St. and 201 N. Minnesota St.

You can also mail packages and purchase stamps at customer service counters at Cash Wise Foods, 1220 Westridge Rd., and Hy-Vee Foods, 2015 S. Broadway. Collection times at off-site locations is 2 p.m.

A blue collection box is also located in front of the post office. It will be collected at 3:45 p.m.

Wintheiser said the new post office entrance will feature a shorter curb, stairs and a handicap-accessible ramp that is up to building codes.
