NEW ULM — The New Ulm Wild Bunch hosted a Softball and Home Run Derby in Harman Park Sunday.

The Wild Bunch was joined on the field by members of the New Ulm Steel. Two teams were formed that included members of the New Ulm Steel and members of the Wild Bunch. Members of the New Ulm Police Department and Brown County Sheriffs Office attended to show their support for the Wild Bunch as they prepared to head to the Minnesota Special Olympics State Softball Tournament.

The Softball Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 22 and Sept. 23 in Woodbury. The softball game and home run derby are ways to raise money before the State Tournament, but also serve to get the community involved.

The Wild Bunch are also starting registration for this year’s bowling league which begins Sept. 30.

The Wild Bunch bowling group competes in a singles division and a unified division. The unified division is a team competition that combines registered Special Olympics athletes with non-registered athletes. The organization is willing to take anyone not already affiliated with Special Olympics. Practices are Sunday.
