RENU to look at proposals

NEW ULM — The Reinvest in New Ulm (RENU) Oversight Committee is holding its second meeting 4:30 p.m. today at the Herbeck Room at the Recreation Center.

The committee will receive design services proposals for Johnson Park. The committee has received four proposals, but one proposal was withdrawn last week and another proposal had no price included. At this time the low bid is $79,400 from ISG.

The agenda packet for the meeting included an update on soil borings taken near the Recreation Center/Vogel Fieldhouse. The preliminary soil borings confirm the site will support additional construction with soil corrections.

The addition of an aquatic facility to the south, gymnastics to the north and the fitness/playground areas north of the racquetball courts are possible with some soil corrections. As the distance between the Summit Street hill increases, the soils become more unstable and in need of more correction, but according to the report these correction should be minimal.

At this time the Recreation Center is being considered as a RENU site for an aquatics expansion, wellness center, gymnastic center and indoor playground. Prior to seeking designs for these projects, the committee chose to conduct soil borings to confirm the Recreation Center was a suitable site.
