Pokémon hunters track elusive Evee

Staff photo by Clay Schuldt Several dozen Pokémon Go players wandered downtown New Ulm searching for the special Evee. Early in the game a group of players gathered together to battle a Registeel pokémon near the Kiesling House.

NEW ULM — Downtown New Ulm was filled with Pokémon hunters Sunday afternoon, hunting the elusive shiny Evee as part of the community day event.

This Pokémon Go event was a world-wide event in the popular mobile game, but in New Ulm local players decided to use the occasion to raise money for a good cause.

Players were encouraged to donate money to NUMAS Haus, a local homeless shelter that families can stay in during difficult times. Currently, NUMAS Haus has a 75 percent success rate, but they also have a waiting list. Extra donations will go a long way to help NUMAS Haus.

Those helping donate were given a chance to enter a raffle drawing to receive special Pokémon themed prizes.

The first 100 people to check in for the event in German Park were given a free community day button and a pair of Evee-themed socks created by Beacon Promotions. Beacon graciously agreed to sponsor New Ulm’s community event.

At the end of the three-hour event approximately 100 people raised $458.69 for NUMAS Haus.
