Pokémon Go event this weekend
NEW ULM–The dedicated Pokémon Go player is aware this weekend is dedicated a special Community Day Event and the local Pokémon community will be holding another event this Sunday in the Park.
The fun starts at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12 in German Park. At this time, players of Pokémon Go will begin seeing the “Evee” character more often and in greater variations.
This month, Beacon Promotions is sponsoring the community day. Beacon will supply special Pokémon lures for the event and has even manufuactured a specialized socks for the occassion. The first 100 people to check in at the donation table will get a pair of the Evee themed socks as well as a community day button.
Event coordinator Doug Jones, said people can begin checking at 12:30 p.m. This gives them a chance to try on the new socks while they hunt pokémon.
As with past community days the Pokémon players will be raising money for chairty. All funds donated during the community day will be given to NUMAS Haus.
NUMAS Haus is a local homeless shelter that families can stay in during difficult times. Currently, NUMAS Haus has a 75 percent success rate, but they also have a waiting list. Extra donations will go a long way to help to help NUMAS Haus.
Last month, 80 players manaaged to raise $421 for Relay for Life. Jones is hoping to improve on this number.
Players are encouraged compete to donate the most. The Pokémon team that raises the most money will also receive the best prizes. For each donation, players are awarded ticket for special prize drawing at the end of the community day event.
Jones said there will be drawings for a Pokémon themed items, but he is keeping a tight-lip on all the surprises.
Jones wanted to remind players the Pokémon event is happening world wide on both Saturday, Aug. 11 and Sun. Aug. 11 but the local Pokémon Community will only celebrate the event on Sunday.
