NEW ULM — The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce Willkommen Committee held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Red Dragon Gaming Thursday morning.

Red Dragon Gaming is the new table-top board game store on North Minnesota Street.

The business is run by A.J. Juhnke, Travis Theurer and Julie Lovell. Juhnke said the business was created to provide a space for people who play table-top board games. New Ulm had no place for large groups to play these types of games.

The store does sell games including traditional board games, role playing games and trading card-based games.

Theurer said the reason the sell games is to pay for the space the store occupies. For the most part, people coming into Red Dragon are not required to pay money to play the games. The only exception is Dungeons and Dragons, which has $2 cover charge to pay the administrator organizing the game.

On Tuesday, visitor are free to come with their own games and play with anyone else in the store.

The store is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Lovell said the store will remain open longer to let players finish up games if needed.

Red Dragon Gaming is frequently open the latest of all the stores on Minnesota Street, with the exception of bars.

Red Dragon Gaming will hold a special grand opening event on Aug. 11.
